A Special Mustang Deserves Thoughtful Protection
This Lightning Blue 2017 Ford Mustang GT belongs to a client who knew exactly what he wanted—even if finding it meant traveling out of town. As a Tampa Bay Lightning fan, he certainly picked a fitting color!
When he first contacted Reflection Pro Services in 2017, it quickly became clear that he was a car enthusiast who cared about every detail. He had tried products from several detailing suppliers, hoping to find something that would keep his Mustang looking its best over time.
Our conversation started with his expectations, how he planned to care for the vehicle, and which type of protection would make sense for him.
Choosing Protection Around the Client’s Priorities
Before recommending a service, we discussed what he wanted to accomplish. Preserving the appearance of the paint, simplifying routine care, and addressing existing imperfections were important parts of that conversation.
That approach still guides our recommendations today. Choosing protection starts with understanding the vehicle and the person who enjoys it. We want our clients to understand what a service includes, what its limitations are, and how to care for the finish afterward.
The Original Project in 2017
Although the Mustang was new when we first worked on it, The paint had some light scratches and micro-marring from its time at the dealership. New paint does not always arrive ready for protection.
Before the original coating installation, we polished the paint to address those imperfections and bring out the clarity and gloss of the Lightning Blue finish. Preparing the surface was an important part of achieving the finished appearance our client wanted.
This original work took place in 2017. The vehicle’s protection was subsequently redone with Owners Pride 7 in 2024.
Updated with Owners Pride 7 in 2024
The Mustang returned to us in 2024 after body-shop repairs to address a factory paint defect that our client had experienced and that, according to the client, was subject to a recall. During the repair work, the body shop also damaged the ceramic coating we had originally installed.
The need for a replacement coating arose from the repair work and resulting damage to the existing protection. For this new installation, we selected our Owners Pride 7-year ceramic coating option, to continue caring for a Mustang our client takes pride in owning.
Owners Pride 7 is part of our Advanced Surface Protection lineup. Its warranty is subject to the applicable written agreement, including its coverage, limitations, and claims requirements. Current Owners Pride coating warranties do not cover water spots.
A warranty term should never be confused with a promise of maintenance-free ownership. Proper washing, prompt attention to contamination, and ongoing care remain part of protecting the appearance of a coated vehicle.
Why Preparation Matters Before Ceramic Coating
The coating application is only one part of the work. The condition of the paint underneath it deserves just as much attention.
Preparation begins with assessing the finish and identifying contamination or defects that need attention. Cleaning, appropriate decontamination, and any necessary polishing help prepare the vehicle for the selected protection system. Before application, the surface must meet that product’s written preparation requirements.
Light swirls and deeper scratches may require different approaches. Some defects need additional correction, while others should not be chased at the expense of preserving sound paint. We explain the recommended work and any additional cost before proceeding.
The goal is a carefully prepared finish with protection suited to the vehicle—not simply applying a coating over whatever is already there.
